“If you get married live on #BBCBreakfast can I come back for a one off? .”
Last Tuesday marked Dan’s last show after he announced last month that he was leaving the BBC for a new role at Channel 5.
This morning viewers were left stunned when Carol revealed that she is engaged on BBC Breakfast.
Presenter Sally Nugent introduced Carol as she broadcast live from the Chelsea Flower Show and said: “I’m a little bit concerned about you this morning.

“I don’t know how you’re managing to stand up with that giant rock on your left hand, Carol!”
Glancing at her hand, Carol said: “Oh, that one? Thank you Sal! It is rather nice, I got engaged.”
Sally beamed and replied: “Congratulations from all of us! It’s the happiest news, we are so, so delighted. Congratulations.”
But she then asked: “Can we confirm to the nation what’s happened?”
With a giggle Carol replied: “Yes! I think you just have, Sal. Yes, I got engaged. We got engaged when we were on holiday.
“So it’s lovely news and we’re both thrilled, so thank you!”
Sally and co-host Jon Kay told Carol they were “chuffed” for her, before Sally lead a round of applause in the studio.
Carol confirmed she had found love with her new man in 2021, 13 years after her divorce from first husband, field hockey player Jimmy Kirkwood.
Speaking to Prima magazine at the time, she said: “I don’t want to say too much about my boyfriend, but I will say that he is very kind and very funny – he’s always making me laugh. And extremely handsome, as well.
“He always makes me a cup of tea before I go to work in the morning, which is very romantic – it’s 2.45am and he often leaves me a little love note for when I come home from work.
“That, to me, is worth a million red roses.”
Carol was previously married to Jimmy for 18 years.
